The Salvation Army Lends A Holiday Hand

Keeping yourself safe from criminals is important at this time of the year, but it is also the season for giving and one Bowling Green group is making sure your money goes to a good cause.

The Salvation Army is helping families in need of assistance. The center is collecting clothes and canned goods. Several donations from churches and individuals have already started pouring in.

“We’ve just always enjoyed that (giving), our church has too and we like to help people,” said Don Harris, a Woodburn Baptist Church Member.

“We love to give. It always makes us feel good. It’s good to know we’ve done a little something, because God has been good to us,” said Diane Harris.

The center is requesting canned goods, especially meat, beef and chicken. You can also get involved this year by adopting an Angel from one of the Salvation Army’s Angel Trees. The agency said there is a large number of teen Angels still needing families. The trees are located inside the Greenwood Mall, Shoney’s and Denny’s here in Bowling Green, Ky.

The agency is asking for volunteers to ring bells and hold the Salvation Army’s trademark red kettles. There’s also a dire need for dollars and cents, as collections outside stores are already down 30 percent.
