Three Ohio County, Ky. adults remain jailed tonight, in connection with a prescription drug trafficking ring at Ohio County High School.
Last Friday, December 1, 2006, a complaint was called into Ohio County authorities about drugs being sold at Ohio County High School.
The Ohio County Sheriff’s Department says three adults were arrested Monday and charged with trafficking the prescription drug Zanex.
Fifty-nine-year-old Robert Ward, 51-year-old Jonie Ward and 36-year-old Carol Duncan, were taken into custody. So far there is no known connection between the three adults and the school.
“The initial transaction did not happen on school grounds, it happened at one of the adults’ residences. All three were charged with “unlawful transaction with a minor in the first degree” and “trafficking in a controlled substance third degree,” said Dep. Chris Stafford, with the Ohio County Sheriff’s Department.
The cases will be taken before a grand jury to determine if the adults will be indicted.
As for the school, Ohio County Superintendent Soretta Ralph released a statement saying only that the Ohio County High School Administration, in cooperation with law enforcement officials, investigated the alleged use and distribution of prescription drugs.
She says the investigation has led to discipline measures for some students.
