Students at Rockfield Elementary are helping out the Salvation Army. The school had a food drive and collected more than 1,100 items, and is also making food baskets for 32 families and the extra supplies will be given to the Salvation Army.
Members of the Rockfield Elementary leadership team also went to serve on the soup line.
The organizers said this is important so the students can see where the food goes and where the need is.
"If these students are to be the leaders of tomorrow they need to see the community as a whole, and the whole picture, and that there is a need," said Joyce Scheidt, Rockfield's Family Resource coordinator.
This is the 8th year the leadership team has served lunch at the Salvation Army. The organizers said they'll continue to have students volunteer as long as they're needed.
