Briarwood Elementary Makes A Guinness World Record

Some South Central Kentucky students are part of a world record when it comes to reading.

One-hundred-eighty students at Briarwood Elementary, in Warren County, Ky., took part in a Guinness World Record, for most people reading aloud simultaneously.

The reading session happened precisely at 11 a.m. this morning, when the students joined with more than 450,000 readers from around the world.

“They got to see that reading is life-long and worldwide ... From Haiti to Canada ... They took part in the event,” Briarwood teacher, Stacy Garden said.

Students taking part in the world record had to sign in and the event had to have a non-school-related witness.

The last record set in 2004. There were 120,000 readers. Today’s goal was 500,000.
