CATLETTSBURG, Ky. (AP) -- The trial of Elliott County Jailer Charles F. Howard continues with expected cross-examination of the woman Howard is accused of raping.

The 28-year-old woman testified Wednesday before a court in Catlettsburg.

The Independent in Ashland reported she told the court Howard was driving her to the Boyd County Jail when he pulled into property of a fuel company at the Cannonsburg exit of Interstate 64 and assaulted her.

The woman had been arrested earlier on Aug. 31 on outstanding warrants, including failure to pay fines in a Boyd County misdemeanor case.

Howard told a Kentucky State Police investigator he and the inmate had consensual sex.
