Social Workers Take a Safety Survey

A new survey said social workers would feel safer doing their jobs if visits between parents and children would take place at neutral locations, rather than at the parent’s home.

It was conducted in response to the Oct. 16, killing of Boni Frederick, who had taken a baby to his mother’s Western Kentucky home for a visit.

Respondents to the survey also recommended giving social workers emergency communications equipment such as two-way radios, which would be crucial in rural areas where cell-phone reception is poor.

About 2,000 social workers completed the survey.
