Former Iraqi Dictator is Now Buried

The former Iraqi dictator, Saddam Hussein, who was executed Friday, Dec. 29, 2006 at 9:05 p.m. central time, was buried before sunrise in the town where he was born. Saddam's burial side is just outside Tikrit about 809 miles north of Baghdad.

Around 100 people were present for the burial, which was about two miles from where his sons are buried. Saddam's sons were killed in a gunbattle with American forces in 2003. Iraqi government officials initially wanted to bury Saddam in an unmarked grave to prevent the burial site from becoming a place of worship.
