Harper Files for Candidacy

The officials you elected in November, took office three days ago but some in the state are looking toward this year’s governor’s race.

Paducah businessman, Bill Harper officially filed candidacy papers to run against Governor Fletcher on the Republican ticket.

The move wasn’t unexpected. Harper has spent nearly $2.5 million on campaigning for governor.

A report filed with the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance said $2.4 million of the money has come from his own loans to the campaign.

Harper said Fletcher is too politically weak to win a second term. His running mate is fellow businessman, Dick Wilson. Former Lieutenant Governor Steve Beshear and Otis Hensley Jr. have filed to run on the Democratic ticket.
