Going to church is a very popular New Year's resolution that is many times left off the list of resolutions. Father Darrell at the Catholic Campus Center on Western Kentucky University's said he sees this resolution a lot.

"I do know that with talking to people this time of year a lot of times they will say they added it as one of their New Year's Resolution and they are going to start being more faithful and going to church," Darrell said.

Darell also said there are similarities between January being the new year and more people making religious resolutions.

"Part of making a New Year's resolution, the first of the year the month of January is named after the Greek God Janice that has two faces one that looks back and one that looks forward, and so at the first of the year you sort of look back at the past year and look forward to the year coming. I think people look backward at how they did last year and some changes they want to make and looking forward into the new years that's where the resolution comes," Darrell said.

Darrell works a lot with college students and said he definitely sees many of these students making religious resolutions.

"I do notice a lot that this time of year when the students return for the second semester there will be an increase in the very beginning in attendance and then it kind of dwindles as the semester goes on," Darrell said.

Darrell also said he thinks New Year's resolutions are a good thing even if you don't follow through with them because they help you think about where you were this past year and where you want to make changes in your life for the new year.
