Neighbors of Maj. Brook Talley battled the elements Sunday night, to welcome him home.

"It rips your heart out, when you see all your family and friends out there with the American flags it just rips your heart out," said Brad Burridge, one of Talley's neighbors and a U.S. soldier.

Talley was injured by a sniper bullet while serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom. After six weeks of surgeries and intensive daily therapy in Fort Hood, Texas, doctors told Talley's family he was ready to return home to Bowling Green, Ky. Before leaving for Iraq, Talley was very involved with the community, he said he will remain involved now that he's back.

"Makes me even more want to be a member of the community. Bowling Green has always had its special place for me and just to see all this tonight has been, makes me know why I love this town so much and I can't see doing anything but giving back to this community," Talley said.

In the past Talley was an instructor with Western Kentucky University's ROTC program and has served as a board member of Prime Time Events.
