BGPD Lower Requirements

If you want to be a Bowling Green police officer it’s now easier to meet the requirements. The police department has lowered its application standards to allow more people to become officers.

Chief Doug Hawkins said previously, potential officers had to have 60 hours of college credit, four years of military experience or two years of experience as a certified police officer. Now candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalency diploma and be 21-years-old.

City police have nine vacancies to fill in the current selection process. BGPD said they are confident that more people will apply now that the application standards are lower.
