Ky. Supreme Court Justice Seeks Change

Kentucky’s first black supreme court justice is pushing for reforms in the selection process of appellate judges.

William Eugene McAnulty said he would like to see the state’s district, circuit and trial judges become part of the selection process for the Kentucky Court of Appeals. Justices are currently elected to that court.

He said another idea for reform is for justices to be appointed by the governor with approval of the Senate.

McAnulty said he wants to plant a seed throughout the state. He made the comments during a Martin Luther King banquet, Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007, in Owensboro.
