WBKO has learned the executive director of the Franklin-Simpson County Chamber of Commerce resigned Jan. 15, 2007, amid allegations of embezzling money.
Karen Eaton had been executive director at the Franklin Chamber since 2000. Franklin city officials said the Chamber's Board of Directors became aware of financial irregularities in an account controlled by Eaton on Jan. 12, 2007.
Further investigation showed other potential irregularities and Eaton was suspended from her position. A letter to chamber members said Eaton has since admitted to having issued multiple unauthorized checks to herself. The total amount has not been released, but Kentucky State Police plan to open an investigation within a couple of weeks.
Betty Parker has been named Interim Chamber Director and city officials said there are sufficient funds to operate.
