In Bowling Green Monday was U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell. McConnell was here just hours after President Bush signed into law a new Medicare bill.

President Bush says the Medicare bill he signed Monday will help seniors get "the modern medical coverage they deserve."

But Democrats say the bill will trash Medicare by opening it to competition from private insurers. The centerpiece of the plan is a prescription drug benefit for the nation's seniors.

Senator Mitch McConnell (R), Kentucky, said, "How much you benefit depends upon how much you make, but for the first time in history a prescription drug benefit with Medicare, an important step in the right direction."

Senator McConnell and Secretary Evans were in Bowling Green along with Senator Jim Bunning Monday for a fundraiser luncheon for the 2004 Bush/Cheney campaign.
