This morning, Monday, Jan. 29, 2007, Kentucky businessman Bruce Lunsford announced he is running for governor again.
Lunsford’s running mate is Attorney General Greg Stumbo.
Lunsford spent $8 million of his own money before dropping out of the last governor’s race.
Democratic candidates for the May 22, Primary include State Treasurer Jonathan Miller, Otis Hensley Jr., Gatewood Galbraith, House Speaker Jody Richards and former Lieutenant Governors Steve Henry and Steve Beshear.
On the Republican side, Governor Fletcher has drawn two challengers: former U.S. Representative Anne Northup and Billy Harper.
Former State Representative Mike Weaver has filed papers seeking the Democratic nomination for state treasurer.
Weaver is a Vietnam war veteran and retired Army Colonel.
In November of 2006, he lost a bid for Kentucky’s 2nd District Congressional seat, to incumbent U.S. Representative Ron Lewis.
Current Treasurer Jonathan Miller is a candidate in the Democratic gubernatorial primary.
Three other Democrats and three Republicans have filed to run for state treasurer in the May 22, Primary.
