Horse Park Improvements

The Kentucky Horse Park is asking the state for $38 million more in facility and road improvements and Governor Ernie Fletcher said the state should pay up now, not later.

Governor Fletcher has endorsed the money for a new outdoor stadium and the expansion of an already funded indoor arena. He also wants $10 million to improve roads.

One point of contention is whether the state pays for the changes this year or will wait until the next budget.

The park is preparing to host the World Equestrian Games in 2010. It’s the first time the major competition will be held outside Europe.

Meanwhile, the planning commission established for the World Equestrian Games in Kentucky held its first meeting this morning, Friday, Feb. 2, 2007, and a famous actor was in attendance.

William Shatner who played Captain James T. Kirk in Star Trek and currently plays Denny Crane on Boston Legal, has agreed to help plan the event. Shatner has a horse farm in Kentucky.

The committee was established by Governor Fletcher.
