Hometown Hero: Doctors Randy and Erin Elliott

February is National Children's Dental Health Month. To increase awareness about good dental health, dentists across the nation, including two local doctors, are provided free dental care to low-income and uninsured children.

"I think it's important for any practitioner to provide services for those who are less fortunate to be able to assume that care themselves," Dr. Randy Elliott said.

The first Friday in February is Give Kids A Smile Day. On this day, Friday, Feb. 2, 2007, dentists across the nation provide dental care to low-income and uninsured children.

Dr. Randy and Dr. Erin Elliott's office has been participating in the event for the last five years.

"It's the best day. The girls look forward to this day every year. We all get really excited about it," Erin said.

"This is really, really, really super for them, for the community and those that can't afford dental care," said Vernon Hale, whose god-granddaughters participated in the event.

Hale has been bringing the three girls to the event for the last two years.

He said it provides them with the care that they otherwise wouldn't be able to afford.

"I can't even express this. I'd probably cry. This is a great, great situation for them," Hale said.

For Randy and Erin this day is a way to give back to the community.

"For our small practice, in our little corner of the world, we try to provide something for Bowling Green and the surrounding area that we normally wouldn't be able to do, so on a regular basis," Randy said.
