Kentucky Considers New Trauma System

Another bill being considered in the house would establish an office of trauma care within the State Department for Public Health.

Kentucky is one of the 14 states that do not have a system that provides an organized method for routing critically injured people to the closest trauma center.

The Kentucky Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians is spurring its creation.

The group estimates the death rate from un-intentional injury, is 50 percent higher in rural areas than cities.

The physicians say it’s because of the long distance, people have to travel to trauma centers. Similar legislation has failed in the past years.
