Tompkinsville Mayoral Election Continues

The controversy surrounding Tompkinsville’s mayoral election continues. After five weeks of trial, there is still no clear-cut winner. In fact, a judge has ruled the election must be held again.

This morning, Friday, Feb. 9, 2007, Special Judge Ron Johnson said no wrong-doing was found on the part of the top two vote-getters, Jerry Hodges and Beverly McClendon.

The judge called the mayor’s election tainted and set the results aside. Now it’s up to the Board of Elections to set a date for a new race.

The only candidates eligible to run are the ones who ran before, including McClendon, Hodges, previous Mayor Wendel Carter, Norman Clarkson and Marrs Kerr.

Earlier this year, Steve Carter was named Tompkinsville mayor pro term.
