State police said Melanie Blackstone of Green County was shot in the leg by her boyfriend Friday morning, Feb. 9, 2007, after an argument the night before.
Her boyfriend, Jamie Smith, then shot himself and left two of her children in the home for about an hour.
Police treated the incident as a hostage situation because they couldn't make contact with Smith. When police entered the home around 10 a.m. they found Smith dead.
An autopsy will be preformed on Smith to determine if he was under the influence of any drugs or alcohol at the time of the shooting, and WBKO will bring you the results as soon as they are released.
