A local band and an area teen will make their appearances Monday night, Feb. 12, 2007, on a national television station.
Sixteen-year-old Ariel Milby of Campbellsville was chosen for the show "My Super Sweet 16.” The show follows teens around who are turning sixteen and who are having a very extravagant party to celebrate.
Milby said she has her mom to thank for being on the show. That's because Milby's mother emailed those at MTV in charge of casting to let them know they were planning a large party for their daughter's 16th birthday.
"I was so excited whenever they told me my party was greenlit just because nobody in Kentucky has ever been on this show. It was just a really big privilege," Ariel Milby said.
Milby decided to hold her party on her family farm on the Green County line. The farm was transformed to a castle, complete with carriage escorts for the guests.
The band she chose to play was a Bowling Green band called "The Secret" that has been playing for the last two and a half years.
"We never expected it so when we got the call saying we're on "My Super Sweet 16," it was kind of a surreal kind of thing to understand we're on MTV," lead guitar player, Neal Clayton said.
Some band members say the most nerve-wracking part of being on the show is just waiting for it to air.
"I mean, everybody that has MTV is going to be able to see it. It's crazy. It's fun though. We're glad that we did it and that we got the chance to do it," lead vocalist, Zach Lindsey said.
"You see all these huge, well-known artists and then here we are playing from Bowling Green but this could do big things for us," bass guitar player, Stuart Johnson said.
"Now, it's just exciting to see what it's gonna be like, how much air time we're going to have, and if they're gonna make Aeriel seem nasty cause she's a really nice girl," drum player, Justin Wilson said.
No matter how the show does portray her, Ariel said she is just glad to have gotten to be a part it.
"I'm so glad I did it. I mean, it was just so fun to be on the show and I don't have any regrets. I loved it," Milby said.
Cameras followed Ariel around for two months so she says she is nervous to see which footage they selected for the show. The carriage Ariel rode in for her party was even the same one that Muhammad Ali rode in when he was the Grand Marshall of a Kentucky Derby parade.
The show "My Super Sweet 16" is set to air Monday night at 8 p.m. on MTV. For more information on this MTV show visit their website by clicking here.
