Governor Fletcher and lawmakers are still trying to agree on how much money should be set aside this year to make the jobs of social workers safer.
Fletcher and a bipartisan group of lawmakers are pushing legislation that they're calling the Boni Bill. The bill is aimed after Social Worker Boni Frederick who was stabbed and beaten to death October 2006. The murder brought attention to the risks social workers face in volatile situations.
Fletcher made his pitch to the House Appropriations and Revenue Committee today, Feb. 13, 2007, for more than $20 million over the next two years to implement the legislation.
