Minimum Wage Increase Made it Through the House

Many Kentuckians earning minimum wage could see an increase in pay from new legislation passed in the house today, Feb. 21, 2007.

In the proposed bill Kentucky's minimum wage would increase from $5.15 an hour to $5.85. Then beginning July 1, 2008, minimum wage would raise again to $6.55 an hour, and then to $7.25 an hour July 1, 2009.

The house passed the bill today on an 89 to 10 vote, but it still has to get through the Senate. The bill's sponsor JR Gray said Kentucky has too many residents who are unable to afford the basic necessities of life.

Kentucky's minimum wage hasn't been raised since 1997
