Western Kentucky University’s Associate Vice-President of Enrollment is retiring after being accused of sexually harassing a student.
Dr. Luther Hughes announced his retirement last month, shortly after a student filed a sexual harassment complaint against him.
According to the College Heights Herald, the student said Hughes made unwelcome sexual advances before and during a winter-term study abroad trip to Central America.
The Herald said the student claimed Hughes kissed her on the mouth, rubbed her leg, bought her bathing suits and made verbal advancements.
The university released a statement today, Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2007, saying Dr. Hughes is stepping down from his position effective tomorrow.
Dr. Hughes will step down from his position as Associate Vice President of Enrollment Management, effective February 28, 2007. Following this date, Dr. Hughes will continue to provide service to the University from his home. ~WKU statement
He’s expected to officially retire June 30, 2007. Hughes could not be reached for comment.
