Folks in the Alvaton community rarely get to see their firefighters--unless it's an emergency.
One event helps change that. The Alvaton Fire Department had its open house today to invite those in the area to mingle with fire fighters, have fun, eat some food, and learn about safety.
"We work all year," says Lieutenant Pat McGrath, "and people just see us on the scene of emergencies and they never get to talk to us or meet us and it's a good chance for us to get to know the community and for them to get to know us and see what we can do, rather than waiting for us to show up at their door for an emergency."
Kids could play on inflatables, get their pictures taken, and even learn about fire safety.
Kentucky State Police were also on hand to simulate a car roll over.
