The park temporarily canceled tours as a precautionary measure in October 2006 when a researcher found high levels of fecal coliform and E-coli in water dripping from the cave. In mid-November the park operated the tours on a shorter, alternative route while researchers assessed the problem.
Mammoth Cave Superintendent, Patrick Reed, said recent test results have shown the water to be well below federal public health standards.
The park has established a sampling plan to monitor levels of fecal coliform and E-coli along the tour routes.
