It's a unique festival where you're bound to see one or two Abraham Lincoln's walking the streets!
Hodgenville in Larue County is famous for being the birthplace of the 16th President of the United States.
And despite the economy, vendors, like Laura White, say business is booming. "People have been coming with cash, and want to spend it! Which has been awesome!"
The Lincoln days festival not only promotes the city's claim to fame--Honest Abe--but also gives an economic boost, says Opal Dail, President of the festival. "We have alot of local vendors, we have school groups, church groups, we have alot of local people where the money stays here and is reinvested in the community."
Scott Coffman, a jewelry vendor, says compared with years past, his business has almost doubled this weekend. "I think this is our 3rd or 4th year here, and i think this one by far has probably been the best, so, it's kind of unusual, with the economy the way it is, I thought maybe not."
200 years later, a president's birth is celebrated, while remembering the heritage behind Hodgenville.
"it's about Lincoln, and Lincoln days," says Kristi Grant, a festival fanatic, "and we just have a big time, everyone comes out, it's kind of like a homecoming. Everyone you haven't seen in a while comes out, and you just get to catch up with everyone."
Economic worries are forgotten, and people let loose and spend.
"This fall people have more confidence," says White, "either people have more confidence in their own economic situations, or they just want to have a fun weekend."
The festival also included a car show, pioneer games, a parade, and even a Lincoln look a like contest.
