Thousands of moviegoers across South Central Kentucky are getting a sneak preview of the controversial "The Passion of the Christ" film before it's released.

A coalition of churches from the Glasgow area sponsored two free screenings on Monday night that drew a combined crowd of over 1,000. Church leaders say the majority of the audience turning out for the screenings is regular churchgoers, but they hope to attract curious non-church attendees as well.

Parents concerned about the movie's R rating and graphic violence are previewing the movie before they bring their kids, but several eight to 12-year-old children came to Monday night's screening, with parents in tow. Most who spoke to WBKO say the movie's violence wasn't too much for the kids.

Church leaders handed out companion books and collected feedback forms to try and follow-up with audience members who wanted more information.
