In 1996 Riccardo Vettraino was convicted of murdering Julie Speakman and wounding her husband John. Vettraino was sentenced to life in prison, but was later granted a new trial when the Kentucky Court of Appeals overturned his conviction.
In a plea bargain today Vettraino pleaded guilty to murder and second degree assault and was sentenced to 22 years in prison. He will be eligible for parole after 11 years.
Had Vettraino's original life sentence stood he would have been eligible for parole after 12 years.
