MURRAY, Ky. (AP) -- A former western Kentucky school worker accused of having sexual relations with a 17-year-old student he coached has entered an Alford plea.

The Paducah Sun reports that Martin "Bo" Brien, 25, of Nashville, Tenn., entered the plea Monday to a charge of second-degree unlawful action with a minor. Under an Alford plea, a defendant doesn't admit guilt but acknowledges enough evidence exists for a conviction.

Special prosecutor David Hargrove of Mayfield recommended a diversion agreement that will leave Brien without a criminal record in two years. The only requirements are that he serve 48 hours in jail and that he commit no further offenses.

Hargrove says Brien was an assistant tennis coach for Marshall County schools when he allegedly had sexual relations at his Murray apartment with a 17-year-old student he had coached.
