Coming This Weekend on March 31, 2007, is the Total Fitness Connection’s Run & Walk for Children to benefit Family Enrichment Center. There will be a mini-marathon, 5K walk or run, pump & run
and the Malchow & Lawless Orthodontics Fun to be Fit One Mile Children’s Race.
There is still time to register for the Total Fitness Connection Run & Walk for Children to benefit Family Enrichment Center. You may register online at www.FamilyEnrichmentCenter.com or by stopping by Family Enrichment Center at 441 Church Avenue by Thursday, March 29.
You may also register at the Pasta Party on Friday, March 30, at Total Fitness Connection, 542 Three Springs Road at 6 p.m. or at the race on March 31 starting at 6:30 a.m. at Basil Griffin Park. This annual fundraiser supports Family Enrichment Center in its mission to empower families and prevent child abuse.
There have been some very visible and heartbreaking examples of child abuse in our area over the past year. A newborn baby was found in plastic bags on a doorstep of an empty duplex just down the road in Franklin, Ky.
A Bowling Green father is facing murder charges after police said he became frustrated with his 8 week old daughter’s crying; allegedly shook her and threw her on the couch. The baby girl died 6 days later at Vanderbilt.
And recently a three year old boy was brought to the Medical Center with a severe head injury, cracked ribs and covered in bruises. His mother and her boyfriend have been arrested on criminal abuse charges. This is just 3 of the 3,694 cases of child abuse in our region last year.
The Family Enrichment Center is asking the community to join them and take a stand against child abuse.

Runners and walkers will be on the roads for these three hours and law enforcement will be assisting with the safety of the course. We encourage people who live on the course, to come out and cheer on participants who may be running the farthest distance they ever have! (13.1 miles)
Many participants are also coming from out of town and we know our community will want to give them a warm welcome. Please see the attached course map.
There’s something for everyone!
Bowling Green’s Only Mini-Marathon will take place at 8 a.m. That’s 13.1 miles for those of you not so familiar with running. Some people will be completing this race as training for a marathon and others will be running this distance for the first time!
The 9th Annual 5K Walk and Run will be held at 8:05 a.m. and include a 3.1 mile course out and back from just outside Basil Griffin Park. Last year we had a 34 percent increase in 5K Run participation!
