Gubernatorial Candidates Make Their Stands on Gambling

Republican gubernatorial candidates are making stands on their positions on gambling.

Billy Harper said he is the only candidate willing to fight expanded gambling, because records show that former U.S. Rep. Anne Northup has contradicted herself on her on gambling.

Northup said in a written response from the Associated Press that she voted against the lottery while serving in the State House. Records from the Legislative Research Commission show Northup favored putting a measure on the ballot so that voters could decide whether to approve the constitutional amendment that led to creation of the lottery.

Northup's campaign manager said a AP staffer misstated her position.

Fletcher said he will not advocate an amendment to expand casino gambling but he would support allowing the voters to decide the issue.
