Update: A five-hour late night standoff with police in Edmonson County ends peacefully.
The Kentucky State Police received a call last night for assistance from the Edmonson County Sheriff's Department regarding a homicidal and suicidal subject on Barbee Road in Edmonson County.
60-year-old Charles Byrnes has been charged with attempted murder on a police officer after last night's standoff.
Byrnes fired several shots at law enforcement officers then retreated and communication broke off.
Contact was re-established and officials were able to take Byrnes into custody without incident.
There were no injuries sustained to either Byrnes or authorities.
"In Edmonson County off of Cox Road, we had a barricaded subject who had barricaded himself in his house related to some stress and had issues dealing with some just life issues," said Trooper Charles Swiney.
Byrnes was lodged in the Grayson County Dention Center on a $100-thousand dollar cash bond.

A nearly 5 hour police standoff in Edmonson County ends peacefully.
Kentucky State Police as well as Brownsville Police responded to a the home of 60-year-old Charles Byrnes, Jr Friday evening.
Byrnes barricaded himself inside his trailer, and according to police, shot off several rounds from a gun.
At one point he nearly hit an officer who was responding to the scene.
KSP Public Information Officer, Trooper Charles Swiney says Byrnes told people he was suffering from stress and other mental issues at the time of the standoff.
The Special Response Team was brought in after contact with Byrnes went cold about an hour into the standoff.
Finally after several hours, police were able to take Byrnes into custody without incident.
Trooper Swiney says Byrnes will be charged with attempted murder for almost shooting an on-duty officer.
After a psychiatric evaluation, Byrnes will be lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
