Smoke is still rising from a fire that destroyed an apartment building and an eastern Kentucky church.
It happened Thursday in Knott County. Marcus Conroy from our sister station in Hazard was there as members of 'New Beginnings' held their first service since the fire.
This sunday, middle school basketball teams from across eastern Kentucky were playing in the "King of the Mountain Classic."
However, just upstairs beyond the whistles and buzzer, New Beginnnings Church was gathering for their first service since a fire took down their building.
The fire started about 1a.m. on Thursday, and in about five minutes, the building was in ashes.
The church lost everything from books, to seats, sound equipment, a piano and many other items.
No one was injured in the fire, and now that the congregation is back together, they can begin healing and finding their next location.
