A ribbon-cutting dedication was held Saturday morning at Roland Bland Park where the new skate park is located. Hundreds of skaters, bikers, community members and city leaders showed up at the park for the official opening.

The $850,000 dollar project has been in the works for over a year and everyone involved said they are just glad the project is finally done.

"We went into this looking for a world class park with a local flare and that's exactly what we have," said Parks and Rec. Director Ernie Gouvas.

"This really is a world class park. It's the best skate park I've ever seen and the fact Bowling Green didn't cut any corners as far as the design goes," said skate park enthusiast Jim Madison.

The designer of the park, Wally Hollyday, was also on hand for the opening of the park.

"If you grow up skating this park, you're gonna be a really good skater because you can learn to skate anything here," Hollyday said.

Due to the rainy weather the grand opening festivities and giveaways planned for the new skate park have been postponed two weeks.

They will take place at the park at 10 a.m. on April 28, 2007.
