A six-year-old girl is back home after being attacked by a pit bull earlier this week.

Elisa Fannin left Kosair Children's Hospital Wednesday night.

The family describes her improvements as "dramatic."

Thursday morning Elisa was already up making rounds at her school and was even in town getting a bite to eat, letting everyone know she's okay.

"Today is her first meal out. This is the first solid food she's had," said Elisa Skaggs, the grandmother of Elisa Fannin.

Every week, Elisa Skaggs and her family make it to Mary's Home Cooking Restaurant.

So when her little granddaughter wanted some "real" food, that's exactly where they went.

"She pinches it off, takes little bites and make sure it's moist, but she's doing it herself," her grandmother said.

It's been three days since six-year-old Elisa Fannin was attacked in the face by a pit bull at her neighbors apartment.

But today Elisa, while bandaged and bruised, is making significant progress.

"The improvement, how fast it happened, it really amazed us," Skaggs said.

Her grandmother says Elisa's surgery, while extensive, was a success.

She says it's still unclear how much more she could need.

"The doctor say it's according to the tissue damage and if the tissue underneath there dies or lives," Skaggs said. "If it dies, she will have to have more surgery. He said that is definite.".

With "Get Well" pictures and hand-written notes, Her family says Elisa's been on the minds of her first-grade classmates and in the hearts of complete strangers.

"She's getting people coming up to her and saying, 'We saw it on TV. We hope you're feeling better and we're praying for you,'" Skaggs said.

Those prayers are working, her grandmother says -- working to get Elisa back to the smiling little six-year-old she was before.

"We just want her to be back to normal as fast as possible," Skaggs said.

The dog's owner, 25-year-old Ray Lane, and 32-year-old Erica Cline, the woman keeping the dog when Elisa was attacked were arrested Wednesday for "harboring a vicious animal."

Jail officials say both posted bond and were released the same day.
