The Barren River District Health Department said that the bat was found on Roseville Road. It was sent to the state rabies lab in Frankfort, Ky., where it tested positive.
The health department said that rabies is not limited to just wild animals. You should vaccinate all dogs, cats and ferrets against rabies. Always avoid contact with wild animals, especially skunks, foxes and bats.
If a sick animal is found you should not handle it and contact your local animal control official.
If you are bitten you should immediately clean the wound with soap and water then report the bite to the local health department.
