Murder in Allen County

An Allen County woman is dead tonight and her son says he killed her.

Fifty-six-year-old Pamela Conway was shot four times at point blank range, and authorities tell us her son has confessed to the murder.

It happened on Harold Bandy Lane in Holland; that's a small farming community about 10 miles outside of Scottsville.

The Allen County Sheriff's Department says 24-year-old Eric Tobin was living there with his wife and two children, and his father, Fred, until a month ago, when he and his wife separated.

He apparently stayed at the house with his father, and his wife moved to Tennessee with the children.

Authorities say that's how the argument between Tobin and his mother, Pamela Conway, started Wednesday morning.

Tobin told authorities his mother told him she was going to get a lawyer to get custody of the children.

Detective Steve Woods says the argument escalated, and when Ms. Conway attempted to leave, Tobin went back into the house and got a .38 Caliber handgun, went to the driver's side of his mother's van, and shot her four times at point blank range. He then says he drove her van into a ravine and left her body there in the van.

The Sheriff's Department says sometime after that, Tobin confessed to other family members, who convinced him to turn himself in to authorities. He did so around 11:30 Wednesday morning.

Detective Steve Woods says Tobin was subdued and nervous, but very cooperative, and even agreed to take law enforcement back to the scene.

Eric Tobin is being held in the Allen County Detention Center on $503,000 bond. He's charged with murder, tampering with physical evidence, and several charges in connection with possession and cultivation of marijuana.
