Spider Boy

Here's an unusual story: A physician discovers something he's never seen before - a real live spider boy. Jane Smith reports.

Nine-year-old Jesse Courtney loves playing video games with his friend, but what he's not so crazy about is a persistent crackling in his left ear.

"It was like this weird popping noise. It kept on bothering me," Jesse explained. So he went to his doctor David Irvin, the same man who delivered him some relief.

"It looked like this little nest of hair," Irvine said.

"He told the nurse to flush it out and they started flushing it out, and lo and behold out came two spiders," Jesse said.

The first one dead - the second one struggling to get out.

The spiders were the size of this pencil eraser. They were nestled up to Jesse's eardrum about an inch inside of his left ear.

"Both of them were nested right up against the ear drum," Irvin explained. "These are not dangerous. They're small - they couldn't harm him."

The formerly unwelcome guests are now souvenir spiders.

"i call this one on the bottom Drowney and on the top Floatey," Jesse said.

After hosting Drowney and Floatey for two days, friends are calling this fourth grader by a different name.

"Well, they're calling me like Spider Boy, Spider Man, and it's okay because I don't really care. It's okay - two spiders in my ear," Jesse said.

Isn't it ironic that the spiders were found at the same time Spider Man 3 is topping ticket sales at the box office. Who knows, maybe this little boy will grow up to be the real Spider Man!
