The Barren County trial for 57-year-old Dickie L. Thomas comes to an end.
Thomas was indicted August 2006 on counts of attempted murder and assault. He was accused of firing a shotgun at his wife and sister-in-law in July 2006, leaving them with several gunshot wounds.
At the trial on May 9, 2007, the Commonwealth presented testimony from 911 personnel, law enforcement and EMS workers. The defense argued that Davis was extremely emotionally disturbed at the time of the incident.
The jury found Thomas guilty of charges of assault first degree in regard to his wife, Debra Thomas and assault in the second degree in regard to his sister-in-law, Gail Lyles.
The jury recommended 15 years in prison for both charges. Thomas' sentencing hearing is set for June 18.
