May 16, 2007, marks the first official day of ticket sales for the St. Jude Dream Home.
The home, valued at more than $400,000, is under construction in Olde Stone, in Bowling Green, Ky.
Shannon Hendrick at IGA said they hope to sell up to 7,000 tickets.
Warren County Judge-Executive Mike Buchanon bought the first $100 ticket on this morning.
"I think everyone should come out and buy a ticket for St. Jude. It's such an extraordinary cause. If you make one trip down there you'd want to be first to buy a ticket as well," Buchanon said.
Julie Torzewski works for the American Lebanese Syrian Associated Charities, also known as ALSAC, the fundraising organization of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. She is also encouraging people to buy a ticket, if not for the home, then just to donate to the hospital.
"We need the money in every way, shape and form. It's run completely on donations. Nobody pays for their treatment. We cover all their lodging and food while they receive treatment as well. It's such an awesome place and it means so much to the kids that Bowling Green supports this. We thank them so much," Torzewski said.
You can purchase tickets for the Dream Home through September 16, 2007 at IGA and Houchens stores, along with Hancock Fabrics.
