Working on Iraq Spending Bill

The White House and Congressional Democrats still remain at odds over funding U.S. troops in Iraq.

Earlier this on May 18, 2007, the White House rejected a stripped down spending bill for the war.

Democrats offered a bill with billions of dollars of domestic spending stripped out, but still demanded a timetable for withdrawing troops.

The White House said “no,” but the good news is that the two parties did sit down to talk.

Democrats said they’ll move forward, drafting another bill. Republicans are working on their own plan. It includes “benchmarks” for the Iraqi government.

Democrats want a war funding bill passed by Memorial Day.
