You may not think about sailing in Kentucky but all weekend long sailors enjoyed the soothing waters of the Barren River Lake. Port Oliver Yacht Club held their annual Huddleston Cup Regatta.
John O'Connor is a retired Western Kentucky University professor and his favorite past time for the last 40 years has been sailing.
"It's much more fun when there is a breeze," O'Connor said.
O'Connor's wife actually purchased his sail boat because she felt he was working too much, but O'Connor said sailing can be tough when the winds get strong.
"It takes a lot of strength to work the lines and things happen really fast," O'Connor said.
O'Connor said if you want to relax, a sail boat is the best way to calm yourself and get lost in the calm waters.
"If your in a hurry to get some place like that motor boat that just went by, sailing not for you."
O'Connor said he was happy with his wife's decision to buy a sail boat over any other kind of boat.
"It's more romantic and because their prettier even with a fiber glass boat like the wood is really pretty," O'Connor said.
He says he loves to participate in the regattas.
"Just the fun of being in groups to telling tales about your sailing and usually in super light air, it's putting your skills against other people too."
