The stage is set for the race for Kentucky governor. Governor Ernie Fletcher won the GOP nomination and for the Democrats, it’s Steve Beshear.
On May 23, 2007, Governor Fletcher is back on the campaign trail. Fletcher’s campaign manager said there’s not victory savoring a day after winning the nomination, but the governor definitely celebrated his victory last night.
Campaign manager, Marty Ryall said there’s no victory savoring a day after winning the Republican nomination again. Ryall said Fletcher was working the phones on Wednesday, thanking supporters and reaching out to those who supported his opponents.
A political scandal forced the first-term governor to redouble his efforts on the campaign trail against former Congresswoman Anne Northup of Louisville, Ky., and millionaire businessman, Billy Harper of Paducah.
Though Northup made Fletcher’s indictment an issue in the primary race, Fletcher claimed the grand jury’s investigation was politically motivated. Northup offered civil words after her loss to Fletcher and some of the state’s top Republican leaders have offered their support, including U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell.
It was back to work for Democratic gubernatorial nominee, Steve Beshear and his running mate Daniel Mongiardo though.
The pair were back at their campaign headquarters on May 23, making plans for the November election.
