FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- Republican Jimmy Higdon has filed a campaign finance report that shows he has raised far less than his Democratic opponent in Kentucky's special state Senate race.
Higdon filed the report Monday showing he has $131,499. Of that, he still has 73,628 still on hand.
Democrat Jodie Haydon reported Friday that he had raised $333,000 for the high-stakes race that could loosen the GOP's grip on the Kentucky legislature and improve the odds for more gambling in Kentucky.
The winner will represent only four counties. But the race is being closely monitored across Kentucky because of its potential ramifications on gambling.
Haydon wants to join other lawmakers who would change state law to allow horse tracks to add video slot machines. Higdon favors a ballot referendum that would allow Kentucky voters to decide the issue.
