A Kentucky man hospitalized after alledgedly assaulting a police officer has died.
State police said 53-year-old Billy Phillips of Columbia, Ky., was arrested on June 1, 2007 for driving under the influence.
Police said after Phillips was taken to the Adair County Jail he lunged at Trooper B.J. Burton several times.
A Columbia State Police report said Burton then hit Phillips and the prisoner fell, hitting his head either on the jail wall or the concrete floor.
Phillips was handcuffed in the front at the time.
He died June 4, at the U.K. Medical Center.
