Reports that Louisiana Congressman William Jefferson told Congressional leaders he plans to take a temporary “leave of absence” from the House Small Business Committee.
The move comes a day after a federal grand jury handed up an indictment on charges that he received more than $500,000 in bribes.
Jefferson’s decision to take a leave comes a few days before House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is expected to urge a special House panel to oust him.
Last year she succeeded in stripping Jefferson of his seat on the Ways and Means Committee.
