Friends remembered a Florence native and Air Force Reservist who died in Afghanistan Monday.
Thirty-five-year old Anthony "Tony" Campbell was a Cincinnati, Ohio Police Officer and Tech Sergeant who worked in explosive ordinance disposal in the United States Air Force 932nd Civil Engineer Unit.
He was based at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois.
Friends said Campbell loved public service professions and always wanted to be a police officer.
Police leaders said Campbell had many strong attributes and his loss is tough news to hear.
"This one came home, this isn't a near miss, this one's a tragic event that we weren't able to avoid and it's given everyone a moment to pause," says Lt. Col. James Whalen, Cincinnati Police Department.
Campbell is survived by his parents, wife and three children.
The military says he died of injuries received after the detonation of an improvised explosive device in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.
