Libby Ordered to Prison

A federal judge has decided not to delay a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence for former White House Aide Lewis Scooter Libby.

This means Vice President Cheney’s former chief of staff could go to prison within weeks, but Libby’s lawyers can still ask an appeals court for an emergency order, delaying the sentence.

Libby was found guilty of lying to investigators about how he learned that Valerie Plame worked for the CIA. Libby has maintained his innocence, saying any misstatements were the result of bad memory, not deception.

Libby’s supporters want President Bush to pardon him.
