Not too many weekends go by without a racing event of some sort at Beech Bend Raceway in Bowling Green. We got local reaction from some of these racers about the Tennessee drag racing deaths.
This weekend NHRA races were held at Beech Bend Raceway.
Beech Bend has concrete walls and fences between the racers and the fans. After Saturday night's racing tragedy in Tennessee, one fan reflects on the underlying dangers of racing.
"Drag racing is an extremely fast sport. Things happen extremely fast, but when it's held in a controlled environment on a racetrack, you've got the necessary safety personnel, people whose got the experience and knows what they're doing in case of an emergency, and it's a safe sport when it's done like that", says drag racing fan, Johnny Johnson.
Johnson added that an accident Saturday night at Beech Bend could have resulted in a similar tragedy, If not for the safety precautions already in place.
